My only goal was to make sure that I didn't run faster than 7:30/mile pace for any mile, even if I was feeling good. I had a lot of fun with the marathon too. Ironically, my final mile in the half (which I was taking easy) was about the same pace as my final mile in my disappointing 10K (which I was racing) the day before. Around mile 7, they decided to slow the pace a bit, and I decided to pick it up, so I ended up finishing the race solo. We were laughing and joking, not taking ourselves too seriously. I started running with my coworkers Mark and Warren – who I often run with at lunchtime back in Pennsylvania – and it felt like we were just out on a lunch run. I'm not sure exactly what happened, but it definitely wasn't my day. I held that pace for the first two miles, but I started struggling (more than I should have been) almost immediately, and completely fell apart after mile 2, slowing down well below 6:40/mile for the remaining miles. I've been running 6-mile tempo runs at about 6:10/mile pace lately, so I figured that running at 6:00/mile or a touch quicker would be a reasonable goal for the race. My goal race of the weekend was the 10K and I was hoping for a new P.R. Luckily, I finished just before the rain started – it would have been bad if the rain caught me since I hadn't brought any rain gear for my camera. Even though I was running slow, the humidity was making me sweat, and running with the bulky camera wasn't the most comfortable. I took the 5K on Thursday really easy, running with my DSLR camera and stopping to take photos of the characters along the way. That extended period of time was something that we've never had at previous Challenges. I really enjoyed getting to meet (or in some cases, see again) all of you Challengers and then get to know you better at the four post-race breakfasts and two pasta dinners. The extended period of time that we were down there made it seem almost like a running camp, rather than just a race. I think this was my favorite of the Runner's World Challenge events that I've ever been a part of. Play icon The triangle icon that indicates to play
